Finnish mezzo soprano Olivia Kyllönen grew up in a musical family and began studying the violin at the age of 6 at the Musikinstitutet Kungsvägen in her hometown of Espoo. In addition to violin and piano studies, Olivia participated in choir and orchestra activities. At 14 years old she started classical singing lessons with Tanja Kauppinen-Savijoki. After graduating high school followed a year of studying theatre at the Västra Nylands Folkhögskola between 2013-2014.
Olivia has a bachelor’s degree in vocal pedagogy from Turku University of Applied Sciences. During 2017-2018 Olivia completed exchange studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she studied under the tutelage of Elizabeth McCormack.
In 2022 Olivia graduated with a master’s degree from the Sibelius Academy’s Opera Program under the tutelage of Monica Groop. At the Sibelius Academy Olivia has performed roles such as Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Mrs. Herring in Britten’s Albert Herring and La Zia Principessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica. In March - April of 2022 Olivia performed the role of Allura in the World Premiere of Uljas Pulkkis’ All the Truths We Cannot See - A Chernobyl Story in Helsinki and in Los Angeles at USC Thornton School of Music. In September of 2022 Olivia made her debut at the Finnish National Opera as Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte.
Olivia has been supported by the Selim Eskelin Foundation, Helen & Walter Grönqvist foundation, Victoriastiftelsen, Svenska studiestödsfonden and Svenska studiefonden.
In the spring of 2023 Olivia was awarded with the main prize of the Caj Ehrstedt Singing Competition distributed by the Svenska Folkskolans Vänner association (SFV).
